Art of the social graph

I was just doing some research for my book about the social graph and realize how critical the concept is to any online art site. To deliver value to artists (beyond enabling them to create a promo site and giving some push promo tools) - to sell art in any form, there has got to be either a) a very strong social graph dedicated to the site or strong integration points into the existing graphs - or preferably both.

Strategies:
* give artists tools to bring their existing nodes into the network - be them on or offline. If offline, take innovative approach like that phone tree idea that I posted yesterday.
* widgets: use them to enable artists and promoters to insert into their nodes.
* develop apps for existing strong graphs such as Facebook.
* look into node aggregation methods such as those in the works by brad fitz

To do:
* sit down and map opportunities for first tying into existing graphs, aggregating graphs, and then supporting a custom graph once it's been established.
* how do we incorporate non-web artists into the graph?
* research social incentive systems - looking at those that have failed - what is working and how does it tie into art community.
